This is a really wonderful French majolica bank in the form of a dirigible or blimp. The blimp is marked "Patrie" after the dirigible ordered by the French Minister of War in 1906 and named La Patrie. After travelling from Paris to Verdun in 1907 in seven hours, La Patrie was caught in a gale a few days later. The pilot was forced to descend. The wind, however, was so strong that 200 soldiers were unable to hold down the unwieldy craft and it was torn from their hands. It sailed away and went down in the North Sea. The bank stands 3 3/8" high and measures 5 1/4" x 2 1/2". It is in excellent condition with no chips. There is a fine hairline (3/4" long) running from the slot in the top (see close up), but it is stable.

This is a lovely English majolica pitcher with registry mark dating it to 1880. The pitcher has an unusual handle, stands 7 5/8" high ahd has a diameter of about 4 1/2" at the widest point. The pitcher is a pretty pale lavender inside and dark blue and a warm, soft brown with pink overtones on the outside. Overall condition is very good - there is a small glaze flake or shallow chip on the spout and a larger chip on the foot rim that has been painted and glazed so it does not detract.
