This is a fabulous sterling silver snuff box by Gorham, c. 1891. The box has a repousse design on the lid reading "Solace". This box is pictured on p. 130 of Crosby's "Silver Novelties". The inside of the lid bears the Gorham mark together with date mark for 1891 and "Sterling". It is also engraved inside the "Compliments of John Anderson & Co.". John Anderson & Co. were tobacco and snuff manufacturers and importers of fine "segars" on Broadway in New York and "Solace" was one of their brands. The box measures 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 1/2" and has good weight (89.5 grams). It is in excellent condition with only a couple of tiny indentations that you have to look for.

This is a fabulous European 900 silver and guilloche enamel photo album or book, c. 1900. The front has a white guilloche enamel ground with swirls radiating from the center medallion and inlaid gold stars and dots above and below the medallion. The medallion has a black enamel ground with two guilloche enamel ladies dancing. The ladies' gowns have a lovely luminescence from the tight concentric circles of engraving under the enamel. The circles are only visible with magnification and do not extend into the black ground, but the effect on the gowns is wonderful. The back of the book is plain silver with no decoration. The book has a small catch and opens to space for four photos inside. It measures 1 3/4" x 2 1/2" and is in really excellent condition with no enamel loss or other damage. There is a very light scratch 1/4" long on the black enamel but this is only visible if you catch it in just the right light. The book has good weight (77 grams) and is marked on the back 900 (silver - sterling is 925) and has another mark that looks like a lyre. I have been told it is Romanian, but I have been unable to confirm this. Overall a very finely crafted piece in outstanding condition.

This is a wonderful sterling silver money purse, c. 1910. The purse has an overall engine-turned design both front and back. The front also has a chased cartouche and nicely detailed border. The purse is lined with green moire silk that forms three compartments for holding money. It is in excellent condition with no dings. There is some staining on the silk inside the purse. The purse measures 3 1/2" x 2 1/4" x 3/8" and is marked "sterling".
