| This is a wonderful Victorian sterling book chain collar and locket, c. 1880s. The necklace measures 16 1/2" long x 1" wide and the drop with locket is 4" long. The locket measures 1 3/4" (not including bail) x 1 1/4". The necklace and locket are in really excellent condition - there is one small repair to one of the links, but this is barely noticeable (see photo). One of the inserts in the locket is still present, but the original celluloid is missing. The necklace is not marked, but tests sterling. The locket bears a maker's mark ("SS"), possibly Stephen Smith (very fine London silversmith from 2nd half of the 19th Century). | |||||||||||
